My early fall garden is ripe with an abundance of not just turnips, carrots and sunflowers — but with hope in tomorrow.

As the construction work on my 18th-century house continues to bring chaos to my days — and the ever-gloomy new headlines make my heart heavy — I discovered the many spiritual lessons sunflowers can teach us: lessons on facing the sun always, on divine companionship and rejoicing even when problems weigh us down.
