The Joy of Restoration

I believe nothing is ever a lost cause — that whatever we love or treasure in our lives (that perhaps needs a little help) — can be made new.

Case in point, my mom’s wedding gown. I have always adored the gown ever since I was a little girl. It’s in bad shape, though, but she gave it to me last year, and I have big plans for it.

It also gave me an idea — and so I have yet another crazy passion project I am embarking on here at the farm.

But as I begin this project that I will share with you, I have been thinking about restoration. The Bible talks a lot about lives being restored because that’s who God is — God wants only the best for us. What does it take in our own lives to experience the joy of being restored?

Pull up a chair and join me as I share some thoughts with you, along with some interesting history in how we got some of the most popular wedding traditions.

Share, like, comment!

And let me know your stories of restoration!

Blessings!

  1. Donna, I certainly understand your trepidation in cutting into that beautiful fabric. I have been sewing since I was three years old and have often had that feeling. I made a smocked dress for my granddaughter’s First Communion using satin, Swiss batiste, and organza. I tried to attach a picture but was unable to. Everyone there said that it was the most beautiful dress they had ever seen. Her twin brother wasn’t the least upset that I hadn’t made him something also. I remember his telling me “that’s okay, Grandma.”

Sending courage to take that first cut into the fabric.

    • Thank your for the encouragement to take that first cut. I am thinking I will make a mock up first with some extra fabric I have laying around. I now I understand the construction of a 1770s English round gown to the point where I can whip a dress up quickly. But this dress is constructed differently, so I think I will practice. 🙂 I would love to see a picture of that dress you made for your granddaughter. It sounds beautiful!
